Hearty cake with pasta, meatballs and cheese

When you hear the word dome, a certain roof shape probably comes to mind. However, this recipe makes it clear that the words you should think of should be pasta, bratwurst and meatballs. Why? Read on and make a delicious discovery.

For this you need:

For the meatballs:

  • 1 kg of mixed minced meat
  • 40 g breadcrumbs
  • 3 eggs
  • 40 g parmesan
  • 1 pinch of freshly ground nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
  • 3 tbsp fresh, chopped parsley
  • oil

For the filling:

  • 500 g pre-cooked penne
  • 700 ml tomato sauce
  • 250 g coarse sausage
  • 2 scoops of mozzarella
  • 80 g pecorino (or parmesan)
  • 5 eggs

For the dough:

  • 700 g of flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 120 ml of water

That is how it goes:

1.) For the meatballs, put all the ingredients in a large bowl and knead them with your hands.

Then shape balls the size of a golf ball with your palms and fry them in a little oil until golden brown on all sides.

2.) For the filling, first pour the tomato sauce over the penne and mix both thoroughly. Then you fry the sausages and cut them into thin slices.

3.) For the dough, put the flour on your work surface and sprinkle the salt over it. Now make a well in the middle of the flour and add the eggs, oil and water. Now carefully stir this mixture with your fingers and then knead it with the flour to form a smooth dough.

Then roll out the dough thinly.

4.) Line a heat-resistant bowl, which should be greased beforehand, with the dough. Then you fill in a third of the pasta. Place half of the sausage slices on top.

Now pluck a ball of mozzarella into small pieces and place this as the next layer on the sausage. Now spread a third of the meatballs on top and rub half of the pecorino over it.

Then whisk the 5 eggs together and pour half of the egg mixture into the bowl.

Repeat all steps and put pasta again as the top layer.

5.) Now beat the dough on top and close the lid carefully. Cover everything carefully with aluminum foil and bake the dome for 60 minutes at 165 ° C in convection mode.

Then remove the foil and bake your work for another half an hour. Let it sit for about 15 minutes before flipping it onto a platter or large plate.

Such a work of art, which is bulging with hearty delicacies, is seldom put on your plate. And not only does it look impressive, it also combines pasta, delicious meatballs and cheese specialties in a crispy batter. It doesn’t get any better than that.
